These are some projects I've worked on recently, stuff I either did session
work on, or recorded, mixed, or mastered at OATH Studios. What's important
is the priviledge and enjoyment I recieved working with these artists, and
my desire to help promote their work. And here I go (wheeeee!)
(I'll be updating this list regularly with new additions, graphics, links,
and your comments.)
Howlin' Maggie - Honeysuckle Strange
Traces of the Stones, Zep, and T-Rex bubble up out of the froth created
by this slammin', "alternative to alternative" Columbus, Ohio,
in your face rock outfit. Diverse, energetic songs. Produced by Matt Wallace.
Columbia. CK 67421.
The House Band - Rockall
Vibrant celtic/world music. Hard to believe acoustic instruments can be
so exciting and in your face, although there's plenty of exquisitely delivered
sensitive passages. Check out the cover of Tom Waits' "Shiver Me Timbers."
Green Linnet.
Scrawl - Travel On, Rider
Sometimes called the godmothers of riot grrl, Scrawl was kicking it out
long before Babes In Toyland or any of the other riot grrl acts who frequently
site Scrawl as inspiration. Now that the world has finally caught up with
them, they're back on a major label witha stunning release. Killer songs,
killer vocal deliveries: Marcy and Sue throw back their heads, open their
throats, and belt it out with a rough leather strap. Ouch! I like it! Electra.
Haynes Boys
Acoustic and electric guitars fight like roosters for dominance in this
driving, roots alternarock band. Superb songwriting with some buried but
deeply felt tributes to the man, Hank Williams, sifting in there somewhere.
Slab. SR66611
The Bitchin' Babes
Folk music's wacky troubadourettes team up again for another outstanding
project. It's amazing how these girls can be so hilarious and touching at
the same time. Four brilliant folk artists assembled by Christine Lavin,
she's joined by Debbie Smith, Megon McDonugh, and Sally Fingerette. A true
pleasure and honor to work on this album. Produced by Dan Green, owner of
Amerisound Records and Studios. Shanakie.
John Sherman - So Inclined
Superb acoustic fingerstyle and celtic interpretations of traditional
and original compositions, this album has some beautifully simple but lush
arrangements of ethnic (mostly celtic) and folk accompaniment. Check out
the doombec playing by Mark Hellenberg. Very cool. Walhalla Park Productions.

Megon McDougnah
Cool jazz standards from the '20's to the present sung exquisitely by folk
music's most versatile babe (and 1/4 of the Bitchin' Babes), Megon has so
much class she's in one by herself. Just imagine hanging in a French nightclub
cafe, sipping absinthe with F.Scott Fitzgerald. Megon croons and woos like
a gentle flicker of an eyelash, and belts it out like nobody's business.
Make it your business. Shanakie.
One Riot, One Ranger
Somewhere on the range between the Kentucky bluegrass and the cowboy Rockies
is the camp of the fellars in One Riot, One Ranger, and whatever they're
cookin, that stew smells good!! Bill Monroe stopped by at the campfire and
joined in the singing with Ranger Doug. Great bluegrass and clever songs,
spiced to taste. Mmmm, good, yer a-durned tootin'.
Other Favs-These are other projects, some recorded here and some I just
love and want to hip you to.
Innisheer - Rainbands
Hey, kids! Do you like that celtic music? Jigs, reels, and sessions,
with bows flying and bodrahn's flailing? Gorgeous and sad Irish folk melodies?
Drink up! Amerisound/Palas. AMR1977500
General Guiness-She left with the Piper
A nice combination of traditional and contemparary celtic instrumentals
and songs. ("Songs," in traditional music are pieces that have
vocals, as compared to jigs, reels, and aires, which are instrumental [aside
from the occasional whoop or whistle].) Uplifting, beautiful, and humorous.
Throat Culture - A Cappela Head
Dynamite a capella interpretations and great original songs, Throat
Culture is good medicine for what ails you. Five distinctive voices blend
in a distinctive cup of hot yum-yum, I had a super blast working on this
one. Great originals (did I say that?) and great fun.
Christine Fraser Ramsey - Lang A' Comin'.
Chris is a gifted celtic harpist and is joined by her friends on this beautiful,
spiritual wellspring of traditional Scottish folk tunes, as well as a few
of her own works. Guitar, flute, fiddle, bohdran, and Illian pipes all add
their vibrations to the painting. A site for sore eyes.
Willy Porter - Dog Eared Dream
I didn't have anything to do with this, but I love this album!! Willy
rules! Acoustic guitarist extraordinaire, Willy's a great songwriter and
has a truly gorgous soulful voice. Nick Forester of E-Town accurately described
Willy after his recent appearance in one word; yikes! Willy has recently
toured extensively with Tori Amos and Toad The Wet Sprocket and is really
worth checking out. Private Music.
